Join Our Board of Directors and Help Make Mental Health Care Barrier-Free in New Brunswick
Just Us; We All Struggle Inc. is a registered charity that works to make mental health care accessible to everyone in New Brunswick. With offices in Saint John & Fredericton, we offer free and low-cost counselling, as well as workshops on mental wellness topics, so that cost, wait times, or stigma never stand in the way of getting help.
Our Board of Directors guides the organization’s vision, advocates for mental health, and helps ensure that our services stay strong and sustainable for the community.
Overview:
As a member of the Just Us Board of Directors, you’ll help shape the future of accessible mental health care in our province. You’ll join a team of passionate community members who use their time, ideas and connections to make counselling and support available to those who need it most.
Responsibilities:
Attend quarterly board meetings and participate in open, collaborative discussions about strategy, finances, and programs.
Join at least two committees (fundraising, finance, nominations & HR, advocacy & communications, or by-laws).
Support fundraising and outreach efforts in ways that fit your skills — from helping with events or donor relations to connecting us with potential partners.
Contribute to strategic planning and decision-making to ensure our programs align with our mission.
Champion mental health accessibility in your community by sharing our message and values.
Represent Just Us at community events and help us build relationships that strengthen our impact.
Who we’re looking for:
We are looking to fill 3-4 board positions with individuals who have expertise who fit one or more of the following criteria:
Experience working at a multicultural/newcomers’ organization
Experience working in the field (doctor, nurse, etc.)
Experience working in accounting
A newcomer to Canada who is an advocate for their own care
Based in rural New Brunswick or Fredericton
Ideal candidates will also demonstrate:
A passion for mental health advocacy
Previous board or leadership experience in the nonprofit sector
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
Knowledge of fundraising strategies and experience in donor cultivation is an asset
Term: Board members serve a 3-year term, with the option for reappointment.
Time Commitment: Board meetings are held quarterly. Additional time is required for committee work, fundraising events and strategic planning.
