Where youth can find free mental health help in New Brunswick
Reaching out for support can feel like a big step—especially when you’re not sure where to start or what’s available. If you’re a student or young person in New Brunswick, it’s important to know that you’re not alone, and there are free, accessible mental health supports across the province designed with you in mind.
This guide is here to make things a little easier. Whether you’re dealing with stress, anxiety, low mood, or just need someone to talk to, there are options that meet you where you are.
Start with 24/7 support
If you need to talk to someone right now, there are services available any time of day or night.
988 Suicide Crisis Helpline: Call or text 988 for immediate, confidential support anywhere in Canada.
Kids Help Phone: Call 1-800-668-6868 or text CONNECT to 686868 to reach a trained responder. You don’t have to be in crisis to reach out—they’re there to listen.
These services are free, anonymous and judgment-free. You can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable.
School and campus supports
If you’re in high school, college or university, there may already be support built into your environment.
Guidance counsellors and student wellness teams are often available during school hours.
Campus wellness centres offer counselling, peer support and mental health resources for students.
Even if you’re unsure whether your situation is “serious enough,” it’s always okay to reach out. These supports are there for everyday struggles, too.
Community-based counselling options
Across New Brunswick, there are organizations working to make counselling more accessible—especially for those who might not otherwise be able to afford it.
Organizations like Just Us; We All Struggle offer free and low-cost sessions to help reduce financial barriers. These services are designed to be welcoming and flexible, whether you prefer in-person or virtual support.
Peer Support and group spaces
Sometimes, it helps to talk with others who understand what you’re going through.
Peer support groups—whether online or in person—create space for shared experiences, connection, and community. Many of these groups are guided by trained facilitators, helping ensure conversations stay respectful and supportive.
If you’ve ever felt like you’re the only one dealing with something, these spaces can gently remind you that you’re not.
Taking the first step
It’s okay if you’re not sure what kind of support you need yet. You don’t have to have the “right words” or a clear reason. Reaching out is enough.
If one option doesn’t feel like the right fit, that doesn’t mean support isn’t out there. It just means we keep looking together.
You deserve support that feels comfortable, respectful, and helpful.
If you’re in immediate distress, please call or text 988. If you’re looking for someone to talk to today, Kids Help Phone is always available at 1-800-668-6868 or by texting CONNECT to 686868.
And if you’re ready to explore ongoing support, check out Just Us. Book an appointment today.
